P. lusitanica is a very hardy evergreen shrub or small tree of spreading habit, the dark red shoots bearing deep green ovate leaves. Small, fragrant white flowers in early summer, are followed by small, dark purple fruits

Portuguese laurel plants make a wonderful dense hedge, offering year-round screening, wind protection and noise reduction. Growing to up to 5m in height at a rate of 30-50cm per year, they will grow in any normal soil in full shade or sunny areas.
